Donor Advised Funds

More About Donor Advised Funds

Did you know you can use your donor advised fund (DAF) to make a gift to C4RJ? A donor advised fund is a philanthropic vehicle established at a public charity. It allows donors to make a charitable contribution and receive an immediate tax benefit. Donors then recommend grants from the fund over time. An easy way to think about a donor advised fund is like a charitable savings account: a donor contributes to the fund as frequently as they like and then recommends grants to their favorite charity.

Why give through a DAF?

  • Simplicity: Your DAF will handle all record-keeping, disbursements, and tax receipts. You avoid the cost and complexities of managing a private foundation. There are no transaction fees, which means 100% of your gift will go to directly to C4RJ.

  • Flexibility: The timing of your tax deduction can be separate from your charitable decision-making.

  • Tax benefits: Contributions to your DAF are tax-deductible, and your investments in your DAF appreciate tax-free. You receive an immediate income tax deduction in the year you contribute to your DAF. Moreover, your DAF will not be subject to estate taxes.

  • Legacy: To continue your support of C4RJ after your lifetime, you can designate our organization as a beneficiary to receive a portion of your DAF. The remaining balance can be managed by your loved ones to continue your philanthropic legacy.

Already have a DAF and want to make your gift go even further?

Over $234 billion sits in Donor Advised Funds across the country. If you are a DAF holder and commit to spending down half of the money that was in your DAF on January 1st by September 27, 2024, all the grants you make to us or other nonprofits are eligible for a match from #HalfMyDAF.

#HalfMyDAF will make dollar-for-dollar matches of up to $5,000 on June 28, 2024 and again on September 27, 2024, out of a pool of $1.8M in unrestricted grant funding.

The more donors who commit to spending down at least half of their DAF and give to us, the more likely we are to receive a match.
